The Independence Games Trust are very excited to announce the date for the very first National Independence Games has been set and planning is underway to make this event, being held in Auckland on the 13-15 of April 2012, the best Independence Games yet!

We would like to warmly welcome all teams to Auckland for the National Games and especially to the South Island teams who will travel great distances to join us. The plan will be to hold a national event every four years to coincide with the Paralympics event and then in the other three years to hold South and North Island Games.

Preceding the postponement of the 2011 Games there was a fair amount of feedback about the cost of attending the Games in Auckland. This issue has been discussed and is something we will work with all teams to overcome. With this early advice it is hoped that teams will be able to work together locally to raise money for their athletes and supporters. 

We plan to provide some advice and tools along the way to assist in this area.  As a national event, we will also improve our ability to secure corporate and trust sponsorship which will be used to ensure registration costs are kept as affordable as possible for athletes and supporters.
